The Moscow Development Program 2012-2016

Dear Muscovites!

Modern Moscow possesses truly unlimited opportunities for active and full-fledged recreation and leisure time of its townspeople, exercising physical culture, and sports, walks in the open air, and cognitive excursions with children.

More than a third of the capital area is occupied by parks, squares, boulevards, nature reserves, and other green territories.

116 parks, 118 specially protected natural areas, and 64 palace and parks architectural monuments, as the zoo, beloved to the great extent by many generations of children of our city as well, are there in Moscow.

For the purpose of preservation and augmentation of this unique wealth, the Moscow City Government has embraced special programs «Leisure and Tourism Industry Development» and «Environmental Protection» for 2012-2016.

For 5 years we are in the cards to accomplish a lot.

In the first turn we have to put into shape, to finalize arrangements, to fit state-of-the-art equipment into the city parks and squares, located at the convenience distance from the residential blocks. They are to become even more convenient and interesting for the youth – for those young people, who go in for sports, for parents with small children, and of course, for senior people.

A separate important task is to revive lovely tradition of spending summer leisure beach time on the banks of the capital water reservoirs, as mass devotion to skiing and skating during wintertime as well. Boat tours along the Moskva river and numerous water reservoirs of the capital expect to survive the new birth.

Serious money will be invested into the full-scale renewal of the culture parks and specially protected nature territories, including the pride of the capital, which the Sokolniki park, the Losiny Ostrov national park, the Izmailovo park, the Gorky park, and many others are.

New green areas will appear in Moscow, which will be laid out on the sites of reorganized industrial grounds, waste lands, and other earlier neglected areas.

There is an information directory in front of you, which will help you to come to know more about the work of the Moscow City Government towards the creation of conditions for recreation and leisure tine of all generations of the Muscovites.

Respectfully,

Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin
