«Icon-painters of the Armory Chamber of the Moscow Kremlin»

               On September 7^th, 2011 in the Frater part of the Church of St. George in Kolomenskoye exhibition «Icon-painters of the Armory Chamber of the Moscow Kremlin. From the collection of the Moscow Museum „The Country Estate of Ostankino“» will be opened, which is the first one from the exhibition cycle, organized within the framework of the collaboration between the Moscow State integrated museum-reserve and Moscow museum «The Country Estate of Ostankino».

                The church of St. George, in which the exposition will be presented, is the architectural monument of the XIX century and is situated in the eldest part of Kolomenskoye, in the Ascension square. Inside of the newly-restored cathedral-monument the divine worship is resumed, while its Frater part is used to conduct temporary exhibitions of ecclesiastic art works.

                One of the most interesting icon-painted works of the exhibition is the northern door of the central iconostasis of the church of the Life-giving Trinity in Ostankino painted by an unknown late XVIIth century icon-painter – icon «Archdeacon Stephen». The icon has never left the iconostasis since the moment of its creation, which is more than three centuries. The restoration of icon-stands, which has been carrying today in the church, allows us to see the restored masterpiece in its every detail, which is itself a meaningful event of the artistic life.

                Also such icons, as «Our Lord the Almighty», «The Nativity of Our Lady of God», «The Repose of the Mother of God», «The Nativity of Christ», and «Entrance into Jerusalem» will be shown in the exposition.

            The works of the icon-painters of the Armory Chamber of the Moscow Kremlin, introduced in the exhibition, are examples of the pictorial art from the middle till late XVIIth century in all its originality and progress.

is open for visitors from the 8^th of September, 2011 to the 4^th of May, 2012 in the Frater part of the Church of St. George in Kolomenskoye daily, except Mondays, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (booking-office is open till 5:00 p.m.).
